The Challenge of Transitioning
The move from adolescence to adulthood is a pivotal moment, often accompanied by a mix of excitement and apprehension. Unfortunately, for many young people in state-run homes, this transition can be especially challenging. Government-managed homes frequently lack the resources to offer a smooth transition for adolescents who turn 18. As a result, these young adults often find themselves navigating adulthood without stable support, which can lead to struggles such as poverty or neglect.
At Dorie’s Promise, we understand the urgency of addressing these challenges. Our commitment to our children doesn’t end when they reach adulthood. Instead, we offer continued support to help them navigate this critical life stage. Take, for example, Merari, a sweet, cheerful, and creative young woman who has recently turned 18.
Merari’s Journey
Now that Merari has reached this new stage of life, we are working closely with her to provide mentorship and guidance. As part of our transition program, young adults like Merari have the option to either stay in the home and continue receiving support or to leave freely without any restrictions. Recognizing the difficulties of the outside world without a job or professional studies, our focus is on guiding our teens toward a path of success, whether it involves higher education or vocational training.
Merari is currently finishing high school, with her graduation anticipated in 2025. As she approaches this milestone, she faces the significant question of what to pursue next. It’s normal for many of our children to feel uncertain about their future paths. That’s why we are here to help them navigate these decisions, providing mentorship and discussing their dreams and abilities.
Our Support System

Our dedicated team, including educators, Special Mothers, and coordinators, work together to embrace our children’s fears and guide them through the realities of adulthood.
