HELPFUL INFO TO SUCCESSFULLY LEAD A MISSION TEAM

Naomi, our Missions Director, will lead you through your trip planning. She can be reached at naomi@servewithfci.org. As your trip nears, we will share more information about activities and current donation needs at Dorie’s Promise. Here are some ideas of what your team may do.

OUTING WITH OUR KIDS: On Sunday, your team will be joining our children for a special outing. This sometimes includes visiting the zoo, laser tag, or the soccer fields.

ACTIVITES WITH OUR KIDS: Plan 3 afternoon sessions of activities/or crafts for our kids. This is the best time to get to know our kids and bond with them while you are there. If there is something that you are great at, this would be a really good time to share. Please make sure to bring all of your supplies including any balls, games, craft supplies).

Here are some indoor/outdoor ideas:

  • Creative handcrafts: earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc.
  • Board Games/Puzzles
  • Park Games: any balls (volleyball, soccer, basket ball), jump rope, frisbee, badminton
  • Coloring/Painting
  • Game of soccer: teach new skills
  • I Spy, Red Light/Green Light, Simon Says
  • Dance: teach a new dance class
  • Fitness Class
  • Table Tennis

SIGHTSEEING: Your team will spend half a day sightseeing in Guatemala. Previous teams have visited the Volcano Pacaya, ziplined, visited a coffee plantation, and toured Antigua. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Artisan’s Market in Guatemala City to shop for handmade goods.

DONATIONS: Your team will be visiting many different places that welcome donations. Here is a list of common donations that would be needed. When you arrive to Dorie’s Promise, your team leader will help you decide where to distribute these donations throughout the week. To help us prepare, please let us know ahead of time what donations you have collected.

  • School supplies: paper, notepads, pencils, pens, colored pencils, colored markers, crayons, scissors, glue, etc.
  • Hygiene supplies: baby shampoo, soaps, lotions, diaper cream, pacifiers, hair brushes, etc.
  • First Aid/Medical Supplies: Band-Aids, Neosporin, Children’s Tylenol, Cough Syrup, etc.
  • Other donations: clothes, shoes, socks, underwear, bedding, blankets, hats, diapers, toys: soccer balls, volleyball, board games, etc.

For a list of current donations needed at Dorie’s Promise, please see our Current Amazon List: https://foreverchangedinternational.org/wishlist/

STATE ORPHANAGE: Your team will be visiting a teen girl home. You should prepare for up to 90 girls, ages 14-17. We will have about 2 hrs. with them. We will do a quick tour, share a snack, do an activity or project and deliver donations you have collected. The needs are all the basic donation needs: school supplies, hygiene supplies, medical supplies, etc.

COMMUNITY PROJECTS: Your team will be pre-assigned families to serve. These families are at risk of being separated due to the poverty they are experiencing. Get ready to be hands-on as you help meet some of the physiological needs of each family.  The goal of our family preservation program is to help families stay together and have their basic needs met – food, shelter, water, clothing and a warm place to sleep.

Included in your mission trip fees is a $75 per person donation towards your community project. If your team would like to raise additional funds to complete a larger project, our Missions Director will help match you with additional projects.

SPECIAL MOTHER DEVOTIONS: Your team can lead a 20 minute devotion 2 days in the afternoon. This time is meant to support the Special Mothers who care for our kids.
