The Lord Jesus Christ has guided the mission of Dorie’s Promise from the very beginning. His presence remains at the center of everything we do. Because of this, we are committed to helping our children grow in their relationship with Him and live out their faith every day. Over the years, this commitment has inspired meaningful programs rooted in our Christian worldview.
As the Apostle Paul explains, human beings are composed of body, soul, and spirit—like a tripod that needs all three parts to remain balanced. This is something Selvyn, our Home’s Administrative Director, often teaches our children. Our spiritual dimension requires care and attention, and we grow by developing a relationship with God through values like gratitude, compassion, responsibility, and honesty—all of which we emphasize daily at Dorie’s Promise.
Worshiping Together as a Family
Every Sunday, we attend church as a family. It’s one of our most cherished weekly traditions. Recently, we began attending Nazareth Church, where we’ve found a warm and welcoming community that embraces our children with open arms.
Jenny, one of our staff members and a longtime member of Nazareth Church, explains that the church’s mission is to make God’s Word accessible to everyone—especially children. To support that, the children are placed in age-appropriate classrooms, ranging from ages 3 to 13, while teens 14 and older attend the main service.

Faith in Everyday Moments
Our spiritual care doesn’t begin and end on Sundays. Throughout the week, our Special Mothers pray with the children, especially before meals and during meaningful moments. Our Reforma mentorship program also offers spiritual and emotional support. Each child in the program is paired with a mentor who provides a safe space to talk, pray, and grow—much like the role of a godparent.
Currently, Manuel, Mario, Abraham, and Marta are among the children participating in the Reforma program. Some have had mentors for several years and are deeply grateful for the consistent one-on-one connection and guidance they receive.
These consistent spiritual touchpoints bear fruit in powerful ways. Selvyn recently shared a story about a young boy who had only been with us for four months. During a visit with his biological mother, he proudly exclaimed, “Mom! They’re teaching us how to pray at the home!” He then confidently recited one of the prayers he had learned—an incredible reminder that learning to pray is learning to speak with God.

Faith as Our Foundation
We’ve been deeply moved by the spiritual growth of children like Ana and Abraham, who have made the heartfelt decision to give their lives to Jesus during our Sunday worship gatherings. These moments are not only milestones in their faith journeys, but also beautiful affirmations of the work we’re doing as a community centered on Christ.
At Dorie’s Promise, faith is woven into every part of daily life. We don’t move forward with plans or programs until we place them in God’s hands. Through every obstacle and every triumph, we believe God is with us—and He makes us stronger.
Our mission isn’t just to provide food, shelter, and education. It’s to offer the warmth and love of Jesus Christ to every child who walks through our doors—no matter where they’ve come from or where they’re going.
And that mission can be yours, too.
