Help Us Prepare Them for Life: Supporting Our Teens’ Next Chapter

At Dorie’s Promise, our care doesn’t stop when teens finish high school—we stay with them as they prepare for adulthood. Transitioning into independence is a big step for any young person, but it’s especially significant for children who’ve grown up in a children’s home. That’s why we’re committed to helping each of our older teens build a strong foundation for the future—with a clear plan, practical support, and emotional encouragement.

Right now, three of our amazing young women—María, Merari, and Alejandra—are preparing to graduate. Each one has a vision for her future and is working hard to make it happen. With your help, we can ensure they are ready to pursue those dreams with confidence.

María

María is a bright, focused student in her final year at El Shaddai, a private Christian high school. She is mature beyond her years and takes her education seriously. María has been attending orientation sessions and career workshops at several top universities in Guatemala, including Universidad del Valle, Universidad Rafael Landívar, and Universidad Galileo. These experiences have opened her eyes to new possibilities and helped her better understand what careers might be the right fit.

Right now, María is most interested in human resources—a field that matches her people skills and sense of responsibility. To prepare for university, she’s studying hard for the “Prueba T,” a rigorous internal test that evaluates her readiness for college-level work in subjects like language and math. With the support of our education coordinator, Carol, María has already completed about 90% of her personalized life plan. She’s organized, driven, and eager to succeed—she just needs continued support to make her next steps possible.

Merari

Merari is a creative, detail-oriented young woman with a strong sense of personal style and a love for design. Because of her age—she’ll turn 19 this year—she is completing her high school diploma through a remote adult education program. She studies independently with regular guidance and support from Carol, who reviews and provides feedback on her assignments.

What stands out most about Merari is her commitment to excellence. She’s not afraid to start over on a project if it means producing something better. She’s currently preparing for the Ministry of Education’s national exam, which will measure her academic readiness in core areas like language and math. Merari’s dream is to pursue a career that blends creativity and hands-on skills—possibly in fashion design, personal styling, or graphic design. She’s already begun researching programs and building the habits that will help her succeed in a university setting.

Alejandra

Alejandra is full of curiosity and ambition. She’s currently working through the final stages of her high school diploma via our homeschool program. Alejandra approaches her studies with a positive attitude and is especially passionate about creative and technical fields. While she faces some academic challenges—particularly in math and language—she is highly motivated and constantly looking for ways to improve.

Alejandra is exploring a range of careers, including graphic design, architecture, and culinary arts. She loves trying new things and isn’t afraid of hard work. Her education team has seen significant growth in her confidence and academic skills this year. She’s starting to envision what life could look like beyond Dorie’s Promise, and we want to give her every opportunity to thrive.

Why This Matters

Each of these young women has a unique story, set of strengths, and vision for the future. At Dorie’s Promise, we walk alongside our teens to help them discover who they are, explore their options, and create a plan that reflects both their dreams and their realities.

But we can’t do this without your help.

Our older girls need committed sponsors who will invest in their final years of school and help them launch into higher education, technical training, or meaningful work. Your support provides essentials like tuition, materials, technology, and mentorship—everything they need to take their next step with confidence.

You can be the one who helps prepare María, Merari, and Alejandra for life after graduation.
