Brayan has embarked on an exciting new chapter in his life by starting his first formal job at Novex. The thrill of earning his own money and the independence that comes with a job is palpable. Currently working eight hours a day from Monday to Saturday, Brayan is stepping into the world of work with enthusiasm.
Recently, he even took on extra hours to cover for a coworker who was temporarily absent. Though he’s back to his regular schedule now, this experience has not only enhanced his work ethic but also allowed him to adapt to new routines. However, it hasn’t come without its challenges. The cost of transportation is a significant hurdle, as he relies on Uber Moto to commute to work, which can consume a substantial portion of his salary. Despite these challenges, Brayan’s positive attitude shines through as he navigates this new responsibility.
We’re excited to share that Brayan has successfully completed his introductory period and is now a formal employee.
Growing Up at Home
In addition to his new job, Brayan is experiencing significant changes at home. He now has his own room adjoining our main house. Having this personal space has granted him more privacy and freedom, but it also comes with new responsibilities. He’s now in charge of buying his own personal care items—like a toothbrush, soap, and shampoo—and is learning the importance of managing his time by adhering to a laundry schedule.
The transition to having his own room marks a significant step towards independence. Plans are underway to replace the bunk bed with a more personal bed, symbolizing his journey towards taking ownership of his belongings and gradually gaining more independence. This change not only prepares him for future living situations but also reinforces his ability to manage his resources effectively.
Support from Home
Despite the newfound independence, our team at Dorie’s Promise continues to provide crucial support. He still enjoys regular meals—breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even a snack for work—ensuring he is well-nourished and focused. Moreover, he remains an active part of the household, participating in daily life alongside the other children. Sundays are particularly special as he continues the tradition of attending church with them, fostering community and connection.
Brayan’s journey is a beautiful testament to the blend of independence and support. As he navigates the challenges of his first job and the responsibilities of home life, he is not only gaining practical skills but also building a foundation for his future. With each step, Brayan is learning valuable lessons in responsibility, time management, and self-sufficiency, all while remaining connected to his roots. This balance of independence and community will undoubtedly shape his path forward as he continues to grow.
We’re working with Brayan to prepare for independent life outside Dorie’s Promise. You can expect more updates as Brayan becomes more established in his job and confident in tasks associated with independent life.
